ion Color Brilliance Brights (Aqua) Review

Hey guys, so as you may have seen my hair used to have the aqua in it. I dyed it back to normal maybe 3 weeks ago, but when I had it I loved it. So the product: ion Color Brilliance Brights in Aqua. I bought it at Sally Beauty Supply store along with a couple other products. each bottle is about 2oz for $4.00 but it is a thick paste that goes a long way. However, be careful as it oozes out after you squeeze it once and lay it sideways while applying.

The non-dyed parts are my normal hair color, which I bleached to a light blonde color first using Jerome Russel's bleach & peroxide (which I also highly recommend). ion has their own bleach and peroxide but I have been using Jerome Russel for a while and like their bleach, their colors I've heard haven't lasted long, but the bleach gets good reviews.

Originally, my plan was to test it on the strip in the front to see how the color was, etc. but I ended up leaving it instead of dying it all like planned. The right is the sample in the store of what the color should look like and the left is how mine looked the morning after it was dyed. In the sun it looked even brighter.

After about 4-5 weeks it faded to a teal/green-blue color instead of the normal yellowish green that blues tend to fade to because of the yellow tones of the hair under.  The roots did have that yellowish tinge to it though and I ended up touching it up later.
Keep in mind I also shampoo & condition my hair daily. I  used a color protecting set from ion but the shampoo from that left it dry so I alternated between my normal ones too. When it had faded again another month later I dyed it over that section and the top layer of my hair with a dye close to my natural hair color. It has been about 3 weeks and the color is actually showing through again as a deep green. (May keep it because I like the color right now).

Overall, I would highly recommend this line of colors. I was pretty skeptical at first, but it lasted long and didn't bleed. I hate having to use separate towels that are now rainbow from my hair dying (I dyed my head cherry bomb red & other colors from Special FX before). Having this only bleed when I washed out the dye the first time and the night after was great. The color lasted and I didn't have to touch up as must as I usually have to. Next will probably be purple :D

Color Lasting: 8/10
Texture: 9/10 (It was thick and not watery like some)
Smell (dye): 9/10
Price: 10/10 <3
Overall: 9/10

Hope you guys enjoyed the review <3

  2. Thank you for posting your review on this particular dye as well as mentioning how long the dye stayed and posting a faded picture since not many people do this even though it's super helpful :)
